S&W Plants Recognized for Safety & Environmental Excellence

  

At the2009 CRMCA Annual Convention, S&W received several awards for their Environmental and Safety excellence. 

19 plants received certificates for achieving the following criteria:

Gold Safety = zero injuries & vehicle accidents,

Silver Safety = Incident Rate (IR) below Ready Mixed Industry rate & vehicle damage less than $1500

Bronze Safety = No lost time accidents & vehicle damage less than $2500.

"Team Whiteville"

Whiteville is First Two-time Champion

      The 2009 1st-half Safety Super Bowl champions were none other than P16-Whiteville.  The Whiteville plant, made up of Alfred Oxendine, Larry Graham, Kevin Stubbs and plant manager Allan Britt, did a great job during the 5 months of competition averaging 102 points every month.  Allan's attention to detail and the commitment of his "teammates" has been their recipe for success.  Not only has Whiteville been a consistent performer during this competition, but they also have an impeccable safety record as well. 

The Safety Super Bowl Banquet for Whiteville was held at Fuller's Old Fashioned BBQ in Lumberton on Thursday, June 11th.

S&W Receives Award

      On Monday, May 18th, 2009, S&W Ready Mix received a Gold Level "Certificate of Safety Achievement" from the North Carolina Department of Labor.  The award was presented by Cherie Berry, North Carolina's Commissioner of Labor.  The N.C. Department of Labor safety awards program recognizes private and public firms throughout the state that achieve and maintain good safety records.  Two award levels are distributed—gold and silver.  The gold award is based on the overall rate of incidents that involve lost time or restricted duty. A company must have a rate that is 50% below the average for their industry to be considered for this award.

South Carolina Winners - Tony Hardee (far right)

S&W Driver Competes & Wins!!

     For the second straight year, one of our own has proved himself to be the best of the best.  On April 25th, 2009 Tony Hardee, out of our Conway, SC plant, participated in the 2nd annual Carolina Ready Mix Concrete Association (CRMCA) Mixer Driver Championship and placed 3rd out of all of the South Carolina drivers. Drivers accumulated points in three categories (written exam, visual inspection and driving challenge course) to compile their final scores. In addition to placing 3rd, which resulted in a $250 cash prize, Tony was also recognized with a $25 gift card as the winner in a special skill category called the precision Egg-strava-ganza! 

Congratulations to Tony and our other competitors, Buddy Britt (P13) and Patrick Alderman (P6) for making S&W proud!!!
